Hello everyone!

As you all know from our critique discussion in class, this photograph is an original work of mine, done with a 35mm camera, printed on silver coated paper, and mounted onto black stiff boards. It is of a couple getting wedding photos taken by a professional photographer in Central Park in New York City. I took a very nonchalant, voyeuristic approach to getting this shot, by partially stepping behind a tree and adjusting my camera to focus on the couple. I liked the formal and informal qualities of this photo, with the bride and groom in what we consider formal attire, in a setting that does not require formal wear. I also liked that the couple was looking away from my point of view, thus creating a sort of anonymity to the viewer without lacking emotion and expression.

My re-creation of the concept behind this piece into a time-based work of art seemed like it should be done in a similar approach. I decided to take a voyeuristic approach yet again to keep the feeling consistent with the original, I also decided to have my subjects shown primarily from behind as to keep the anonymity once more. My backdrop was Annapolis this time, an older, yet casual 'sea-faring' town, rife with the continuous turnaround of young stock hoping to be midshipmen. I strolled the sidewalks of town on a pleasant weekend, filming what I could of candid tourists and townsfolk. This resulted in a wealth of footage, that eventually got trimmed down and edited to make a sort of "home movie" taste of what Annapolis can offer.
